Alpacas are members of the camelid family, meaning they are related to llamas, camels, and vicunas. They originated in South America and are raised for their soft fleece. There are two different breed-types of alpaca, the huacaya and the suri. They are distinguished by their fleece. The huacaya fleece has a degree of "crimp" or "waviness" giving them the "Teddy Bearlike" appearance. Suris have no crimp in their fleeces so their fiber clings to itself, forming beautiful "pencil locks" that hang down in silky cascades.
